Fountas and Pinnell - Leveled Literacy Intervention (F&P LLI)

This year at St. Albans East Primary School we have introduced a new reading intervention program - Fountas & Pinnell Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI).

Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is a program designed for small groups of students who find reading and writing difficult. The aim of the intervention program is to bring the students up to their year-level achievement standard.

At SAEPS, the F&P LLI program is conducted 3 times a week with small groups of 2-4 students. Each group is developed using the current school reading data, including:

1. Ongoing running records of your child’s reading

2. Benchmark reading levels

3. Your child’s achievement in reading against AusVELS

4. Teacher judgement

In addition to daily reading instruction in the classroom, children receiving LLI participate in the program for 45 minutes, three times a week. The aim of the program is to develop children’s reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, reading accuracy and writing ability.

Children also bring home a Literacy Portfolio inside of their Blue Book Bag with a book to read and word games that have been introduced in lessons.

Here are some things you can do to help support your child’s reading and writing at home:

 1.     Read aloud to your child daily and talk about what you read.

 2.     Listen to your child read and talk about the books from the Literacy Portfolio together.

 3.     Play the word games together.

 4.     Keep reading and writing activities fun. Don’t forget to enjoy your time together reading, writing and talking!
